Day 1 - Arrival to Bogotá

We will pick you up at the International Airport El Dorado and check in a lovely and high-quality and quiet hotel in Bogotá. You will be welcomed with a delicious dinner and a general idea of our journey.

Day 2 - Chicaque Natural Park Eastern Andes and Sumapaz National Park This journey begins in Chicaque Natural Park, where we will look for very fascinating and beautiful birds in a well-preserved forest just half an hour from the city.  Some of the cool possible birds here are; (E & VU) Black Inca (Coeligena prunellei), (NE) Golden-bellied Starfronlet (Coeligena bonapartei), Flame-faced Tanager (Tangara parzudakii), (NE) Golden-fronted Whitestar, (E) Colombian Chachalaca and many more. After lunch we will head to Sumapaz National Park where it is probable to see the (E & EN) Bogota Rail (Rallus semiplumbeus), (E & EN) Apolinar's Wren Cistothorus apolinari, Bronze-tailed Thornbill (Chalcostigma heteropogon) and Shining Sunbeam (Aglaeactis cupripennis) after a full day we go back to spend the night at Bogotá.

Day 3 - La Calera Hummingbird observatory and Siecha Wetlands This day we will go to one of the must visit places of the city. There, we will certainly have a great hummingbird time near the feeders and we will, definitely, look for a lot more birds. Some of the birds we will get to see are: Sword-billed Hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera), (NE) Blue-throated Starfrontlet (Coeligena helianthea), (NE & NT) Coopery-bellied Puffleg (Eriocnemis cupreoventris), Great Sapphirewing (Pterphanes cyanopterus), Black-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia Victoriae), Green-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia nuna) and Red-crested Cotinga (Ampelion rubrocristatus). Althoug there are many specialties such as the Andean Teal, Andean Duck, Noble Snipe and Band-tailed Seedeater, our Main target in Siecha Wetlands will be the Bogotá Rail.

Day 4 - La Florida Park Wetlands and El Jardín Encantado

 

This day, we are going to be visiting two remarkable hotspots including a wetland ecosystem and a fabulous hummingbird spot located in the municipality of San Francisco. Some of the species possible in both places include (E & EN) Bogota Rail (Rallus semiplumbeus), (E & EN) Apolinar's Wren (Cistothorus apolinari), (NT) Noble Snipe (Gallinago nobilis), Subtropical Doradito (Pseudocolopteryx acutipennis), Gorgeted Woodstar (Chaetocercus heliodor), (E) Indigo-capped Hummingbird (Amazilia cyanifrons) and Ruby Topaz, Ruby-topaz Hummingbird (Chrysolampis mosquitus) After this return to Bogotá.

Day 5 - Chingaza National ParkWe will close our Andes visit with a wonderful and massif Paramo ecosystem, where the beautiful and Endemic Brown-breasted Parakeet (Pyrrhura calliptera) is possible together with the amazing (E) Green-bearded Helmetcrest (Oxypogon guerinii) and the (E) Silvery-throated Spinetail (Synallaxis subpudica). We will spend here a full day looking for other interesting birds such as the Purple-backed Thornbill, Plushcap, Black-billed Mountain-Toucan and many more. In the afternoon flight to Barranquilla.

Day 6 - Monterredondo Guayabetal 

Monterredondo GuayabetalThis is an important bird area where a very elusive bird the endemic Cundinamarca Antpitta (Grallaria kaestneri) is found. It is a very diverse hotspot because it is where Colombian plains (Los Llanos) and the Andean mountains meet. In these foothills you can find amazing birds that converge in this area. Some of the birds you can find here are Brown-breasted Parakeet (Pyrrhura calliptera), Gilded Barbet (Capito aurtatus), Green-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia viridigaster), Orange-eared Tanager (Chlorochrysa calliparaea), Ochre-breasted Brush-Finch (Atlapetes semirufus) and many more. In the afternoon we will go to Bosque Bavaria with a lot of birds to offer. 

Day 6 - Rancho CamanaWe will explore this reserve that has good birds to offer and has been working with conservation since 1993. In this reserve you can find birds such as Turquoise Tanager (Tangara mexicana) Gilded Barbet (Capito auratus), Chestnut-eared Aracari (Pteroglossus castanotis) Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) After lunch we will drive to Bogotá.

Day 6 - International flight Back HomeDeparture day, during this day people will be taking flights from Bogotá to their destinations.
